TYPE OF MATERIAL

1510 Water-Stop-Foam by SealBoss is a hydrophobic water cut-off grout and soil stabilization grout based on a MDI (methylene-diphenyl-isocyanate) polyurethane. The resin is 100% solvent free and 100% solids. The gel-time of the product is adjustable by the mandatory adding of a certain percentage of 15X Accelerator.
Upon contact with water, 1510 Water-Stop-Foam reacts to a foam while expanding its volume 30 to 40 times. The cured material is semi flexible and of a constant volume. Since water is not a component of the foam structure, the cured material is essentially not effected by water or dryness. The reacted material does not shrink or swell.

Depending on the amount of accelerator added and the pressure during injection, 151 Water-Stop reacts to a very dense, closed cell, semi rigid material or a more open cell, semi flexible product. For best waterproofing results the closed cell structure is desired.

1510 Water-Stop-Foam is designed for cutting off gushing water of high pressure and speed. Due to the low viscosity of the material, 151 Water-Stop-Foam offers superior penetration in hairline crack injection. The product is also suitable for the filling of larger spaces, cracks and honeycombing in stone or concrete structures. The product can be applied as a non-shrink, high strength soil stabilization grout when used with very little accelerator. The moisture content of the soil must be sufficient to ensure reaction.
To achieve most satisfying and permanent results in certain applications, a commbination of 1510 Water-Stop-Foam with other systems of the SealBoss product line may be advised. Ask your SealBoss technician for details.

PROCESSING

1510 Water-Stop-Foam and the 15X Accelerator are supplied separately to allow adjustment of gel-time and to provide a long shelf life. It is mandatory to add 15X Accelerator to ensure complete reaction as designed. A higher percentage of Accelerator added will increase reactive speed, expansion volume and lower the density of the product accordingly. Since the end product is of cellular structure, a higher density is favoured for best waterproofing properties.

Recommended mix ratios are between 5% and 10% of Accelerator added. In situations of high water flow rates and /or low temperatures, ratios may be increased to 20%. For soil stabilization applications ratios may be lowered to less than 5%.
Examples: In applications of high pressure water-intrusions, the system will react aggressively on contact with water when catalyzed at 10% or more. A slightly catalyzed product at about 2% on the other hand assures good penetration results in very fine capillary crack injection and for soil stabilization purposes.
The accelerator system offers a very flexible bandwidth of reactive properties, gel-time and expansion rate which make this product extremely versatile for many applications.

Plan ahead: Observe temperature and humidity of the environment, since both determine the pot-life of the premixed batch. Do not mix more material than the amount that will be pumped within reasonable time. Rule of thumb: High temperatures and high humidity - less accelerator.

1510 Water-Stop-Foam reacts with the moisture in the structure and does not need large amounts of water to react. Simultaneous injection of water is typically not necessary. If the area of application seems to be completely dry, pre-injection of water may be recommended.

Caution: This proct is moisture activated. It is essential for all equipment to be dry. Avoid any moisture contact with the mixture to prevent premature reaction of the product. If reaction of the batch occurs while pumping, immediately shut down the machine and flush with a cleaner to avoid built up and clogging of the equipment.

MAINTENANCE OF EQUIPMENT

Remove all excess product and any smears. Tools and mixing equipment must be cleaned immediately after use. R70 Pump Flush is good to your equipment and should always be used. For best results please follow our recommendations.
First Step is conditional - Omit if in conflict with regulations on the jobsite or the equipment you use: Flush first with a very small amount of solvent (not supplied by SealBoss) to cut remaining material. Caution: Xylol, Toluol, Acetone, M.E.K. are hazardous, combustible, aggressive towards the environment, equipment, seals and hoses. Immediately follow second step.
Second Step: Flush with SealBoss R70 Pump Flush circulate cleaner through pump and hoses for several minutes at higher flow rates. R70 Pump Flush is a solvent free, non-flammable cleaner, lubricator and pump and hose conditioner. The product ships without any hazard label.

PRECAUTION

Protect your health! While working with SealBoss materials, safety goggles, gloves and safety clothing must be worn at all times. While injecting, a full face shield is strongly recommended. Spills and blow-outs do happen! Protect yourself and others on the jobsite. Consider property in proximity of the application area to prevent loss or damage. Protect your jobsite from unauthorized persons. Store all materials and equipment safely and out of reach of children!
Observe container labels, MSDS, and instructions in the SealBoss Product Catalog before using the product and equipment. In case one of the components comes in contact with the skin, wash thoroughly with soap and water. Provide adequate ventilation in volume and pattern in working area. Further protection: emergency showers and eyewash stations.

Just wanted to say how glad I was to have your product on Monday. I live in Cobb County, GA and the water came pouring in during our recent flooding. I had already actually patched one of my two retaining wall cracks and already had the holes drilled for the second. However, I had not pumped the second one, so I got a desperate call from my wife for help when the rain hit that critical point and water stacks up against the front of our house. I got there from work as quickly as I could and still had to tighten the packers and mix the resin, but I had the water stopped inside of 15 minutes and we got nothing wet except for a few towels! What a lifesaver! There are a couple of areas that I just could not get the foam into so I am going to have to drill a few holes to make certain everything is sealed. I will need to order a few more more packers for that. I have bragged to many guys here at work about the DIY system and several have asked for your info for themselves or others, so I have passed your website along to quite a few already!

CHARACTERISTICS:
EPOXY (EP)
- Flexible to semi-flexible sealants with little structural strength
- React to foams (water-stops), gels and solid (non cellular) flexible or semi flexible sealants.
- Classified as hydrophobic (foams/resins) for crack injection, joints voids or hydrophilic (foams/gels) for curtain, bladder injection behind structures. Both groups are water activated for use in wet environments - Superior water-stop capabilities
- Single or two component, accelerators common. Viscosities low to medium. Very resistant, long term solution.

Conclusion: In non structural water related repairs PU is generally the material of choice. This is true for most below grade repairs including basements, tunnels, parking garages and manholes. EP is excellent for structural repairs of stressed structures and deteriorated concrete.
- Rigid, very strong adhesive for structural repairs in mainly dry environments, typically reduced adhesion on wet surfaces. Excellent to regain structural strength in torn structures: earthquake damage, extended stress damage
- Not a water-stop material and does not tolerate extended movement.
- Two component. Viscosities from very low to paste. Very resistant, long term solution.

APPLICATION TECHNIQUES:
EPOXY
- Mechanical packer injection at higher pressures 300-3000 psi
Reason: PU injection is often performed in a wet environment where adhesives for surface ports cannot be used. Mechanical packers are installed by drilling a hole into the structure which the packer fits snugly. The packer is tightened mechanically for high pressure injection. PU immediately reacts with moisture in the crack increasing resistance of product flow which explains the high injection pressures.

Conclusion: PU generally needs higher pressures and therefor the more sophisticated connectors / packers. There are many exceptions. For example curtain injection with PU gel into the space between structure and soil needs lower injection pressures but higher rates of material flow. The filling of larger voids and joint injection also uses lower pressures. PU injection through surface ports is not common, but high pressure epoxy injection through packers is seen more frequently. Reasons could be very thick concrete to be penetrated or damp / wet surface conditions.
 

- Surface port injection at lower injection pressures 30-800psi
Reason: Injection is typically done in dry environments and surface ports can be attached easily with epoxy adhesive. Holes do not have to be drilled . However the crack surface between the ports has to be surface sealed to prevent leakage during injection. The viscosity of the epoxy resin stays low during the injection process, resulting in much lower injection pressures.

POLYURETHANE
PUMPING TECHNIQUES / THE EQUIPMENT
EPOXY
- Single component equipment for most water-activated hydrophobic
PU foams, accelerator to be added prior to pumping.
- Either single or two component equipment for true two component
PU resins such as 1400 LV-Resin Line.
- Either single component or multi-ratio two component equipment
for hydrophilic PU Gels based on the application and product. In multi-ratio pumping one component carries a high water content.
Single component pumps include inexpensive hand held devices, hand pumps and electric pumps. Multi ratio devices can be manual, electric and pneumatic. Some PU injection pumps can be used for epoxy injection (with limitations). SealBoss supplies PU as small as 1 gal units. We do not supply PU in cartridges for the following reasons: 1. Reduced shelf life in cartridge due to high moisture sensitivity, 2. Limited Injection pressure. For small jobs we recommend our (3000psi) handgun and a 1 gallon unit.

Final Remarks: Injection Technology has become more refined and in cases more confusing. Modern products are very capable, but similar characteristics are not easily distinguished by the untrained person. - Two component equipment for most epoxy resins for ease of use and precise mixing.
- Single component equipment for small jobs and epoxy with longer gel-time. Observe gel time closely and clean equipment
thoroughly. Epoxy is a very strong adhesive and may render a pump unusable.
- Pneumatic or manual guns for cartridge systems / smaller jobs
Two component injection pumps are pneumatic or electric. SealBoss supplies EP resins and paste also in cartridges for the following reasons: 1. Ease of use, 2. Cost, 3. EP is not very moisture sensitive and injection pressures can be handled by quality cartridges and dispensers. Dispensers are manual or pneumatic. With very few exceptions EP pumps are not to be used for PU injection.
